Copper and Solder

Open at both ends
With a narrow bronze throat
Over a knee with a metal coiled spring
So flexible it bends

The tube and coupling is stripped with steel wool
Applied the waxy flux on clotted brush
And the tube is inserted for the final connection
As i finger from the spool

From the softened soldered coil
A jungle of reels cling inside
The silvery metal is gently uncoiled
For the blow-lamp is lit and rapid to boil

The fitting, the pipe, the solder is heated
And the flux erupts parched to oblivion
As molten solder runs and melts
A joint is formed together welded.
